Description: Manages DOCSIS upstream RF channel configuration, modulation profiles, and statistics on ARRIS/Cadant C4/E6000 CMTS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CADANT-CMTS-UPCHANNEL-MIB?

CADANT-CMTS-UPCHANNEL-MIB is an ARRIS (formerly Arris/Cadant) vendor MIB for managing the C4/E6000-series CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System), specifically the DOCSIS upstream RF channel configuration including modulation profiles, preamble length, differential encoding, and forward error correction settings. It exposes a modulation-profile table describing burst parameters used by cable modems to transmit upstream, plus general upstream channel parameters and conformance objects. This MIB is a configuration/performance MIB for cable access network hardware: monitoring cadIfCmtsModulationTable lets an operator verify upstream burst profiles (FEC correction, codeword length, scrambler seed) are correctly tuned, since misconfigured modulation profiles directly cause modem registration failures and elevated upstream error rates. It builds on and extends the standard DOCSIS CMTS/interface MIBs (e.g., DOCS-IF-MIB) for cable-specific channel management. It is deployed on ARRIS/Cadant C4 and E6000 CMTS platforms at cable operator headends providing DOCSIS broadband access. Engineers can download the CADANT-CMTS-UPCHANNEL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CADANT-CMTS-UPCHANNEL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ARRIS (Cadant) C4/E6000 CMTS
  • DOCSIS cable headend equipment

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll cadIfCmtsModulationTable/cadIfCmtsModulationEntry indexed by cadIfCmtsModIndex and cadIfCmtsModIntervalUsageCode to inspect cadIfCmtsModType and cadIfCmtsModFECErrorCorrection for a given upstream burst interval. If modems on a given upstream channel show high error rates, checking cadIfCmtsModPreambleLen and cadIfCmtsModScramblerSeed against the expected profile would reveal a misconfigured modulation profile causing poor demodulation. cadIfCmtsModControl would be used to confirm whether a profile change is pending or applied.

What Can Be Monitored
