Description: Alcatel OmniSwitch VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol MIB for managing per-VLAN STP/RSTP/MSTP topology parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ALCATEL-IND1-VLAN-STP-MIB?

ALCATEL-IND1-VLAN-STP-MIB is an Alcatel/Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise proprietary MIB for the OmniSwitch (AOS) product line, in the enterprise LAN switching technology area. It manages per-VLAN Spanning Tree Protocol parameters, extending the classic RFC 1493 bridge STP model so that spanning-tree state (STP/RSTP/MSTP) can be tracked independently for each VLAN and port rather than only per-device. It is used to monitor the software-level Layer 2 topology status of the switch, such as port role/state transitions (forwarding, blocking, discarding) and root-bridge selection per VLAN, which are critical indicators of network loop conditions or topology instability. It explicitly derives much of its structure from RFC 1493's spanning-tree group, so it depends conceptually on that standard bridge MIB. It is typically deployed on Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OmniSwitch switches in campus or data-center LANs running per-VLAN spanning tree. Engineers can download the ALCATEL-IND1-VLAN-STP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ALCATEL-IND1-VLAN-STP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise OmniSwitch enterprise LAN switch

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object or table names were included in the sample data for this module, so a specific object-level scenario is not fabricated here. Generically, an administrator would poll the per-VLAN STP port state and root-bridge objects this MIB defines to detect an unexpected root-bridge change or a port stuck in blocking/discarding state, which would indicate a topology change or a developing network loop on a specific VLAN.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-VLAN spanning tree port state
  • STP/RSTP/MSTP root bridge status
  • port forwarding/blocking/discarding state
