Category: VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Aruba
Description: Configures and monitors per-port VLAN assignments and trunk mode on Aruba CX switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ARUBAWIRED-PORTVLAN-MIB?
ARUBAWIRED-PORTVLAN-MIB is an HPE Aruba proprietary MIB for ArubaOS-CX wired switches that manages the association between physical switch ports and VLANs. It exposes a per-port VLAN membership table recording VLAN ID and trunk/access mode for each port. Rather than hardware fault monitoring, this module's monitoring value is configuration-state visibility: verifying a port's actual VLAN membership and mode matches intended network segmentation, and being notified of unexpected membership changes. It builds conceptually on standard ifIndex-based port identification (IF-MIB) and IEEE 802.1Q VLAN concepts as used in Q-BRIDGE-MIB. The ARUBAWIRED-PORTVLAN-MIB MIB is deployed on Aruba CX switches in campus networks doing VLAN-based segmentation.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARUBAWIRED-PORTVLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Aruba CX series wired switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator polls arubaWiredPortVlanMemberTable/arubaWiredPortVlanMemberEntry, indexed by arubaWiredPortVlanMemberIndex, to read arubaWiredPortVlanMemberVid and arubaWiredPortVlanMemberMode for a given port, confirming it is in the expected trunk or access VLAN. arubaWiredPortVlanNotifications would alert on an unexpected VLAN reassignment, such as a port unexpectedly moved out of its designated VLAN, indicating a misconfiguration or unauthorized change.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port VLAN ID assignment
- port trunk/access mode
- VLAN membership change notifications
