Category: Cisco Devices, SNMP Framework, VLAN and Bridging

Description: Declares agent capability statements for Cisco STP Extensions MIB features including PVST+ and PortFast across platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module, not a data MIB; it declares which parts of CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-MIB, covering PVST+, PortFast, and other Spanning Tree Protocol extensions, a given Cisco device/software combination actually implements. It contains no runtime objects of its own, instead documenting variation and support statements against the STP-Extensions object groups. Because AGENT-CAPABILITIES modules describe implementation conformance rather than expose polled data, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status; its purpose is purely for NMS tools that need to know which STP-extension features are supported on a given platform/OS version. By definition it depends entirely on CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-MIB, the data module whose object groups it references. It is used during MIB compilation/compliance-checking workflows for Cisco switches, not in day-to-day polling. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco switches (STP-capable platforms)

Monitoring Examples

This is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects. It lists which object groups and variations of CISCO-STP-EXTENSIONS-MIB (e.g. PVST+/PortFast support) a specific Cisco platform implements, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it is consulted by MIB tooling for compliance/support checks rather than monitored directly.
