Category: Symbol Technologies Wireless

Description: Defines Symbol Technologies wireless switch SNMP trap notifications for system and wireless infrastructure events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WS-TRAP-MIB?

WS-TRAP-MIB is a vendor-specific module from Symbol Technologies defining the full set of SNMP trap notifications a Symbol wireless switch (WLAN module) can raise, along with the read-write enable flags controlling which traps are active per module and globally. Rather than exposing polled status counters, it structures event-driven notifications covering system and wireless-infrastructure conditions across the switch's functional modules. Its monitoring value is centered on fault/event detection for both hardware and software conditions on the switch — a properly tuned set of enabled traps lets a NOC be notified immediately of conditions like AP disconnects, hardware faults, or configuration changes rather than having to poll for them. It complements other Symbol WS-* MIBs (such as those defining system, RF, and MSTP status) by carrying the actual event notifications for conditions they define, and it layers its own enable/disable trap-control model on top of standard SNMP notification mechanisms. It is typically deployed in enterprise wireless environments to feed a Symbol wireless switch's fault events into a central NMS/trap receiver, with administrators tuning per-trap and per-module enable flags to control alert volume. Engineers can download the WS-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol Technologies wireless switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would enable the per-trap 'Enable' truth-value flags for the modules of interest (e.g. RF or system health) and use the module-level doActionNow variables to bulk-enable or disable an entire group of traps at once rather than toggling each individually. When a monitored condition fires — such as an AP going offline or a hardware fault on the switch — the corresponding trap would be forwarded to the NMS, prioritized by the global trap enable flag governing whether any traps fire at all. This bulk enable/disable model lets an operator quickly silence noisy trap groups (e.g. during maintenance) without hunting down individual trap objects. No specific trap object names beyond the enable-flag/doActionNow structure were available in the source data for this module.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-trap enable/disable state
  • per-module bulk trap enable (doActionNow)
  • global trap enable flag
  • system and wireless infrastructure fault events
