Description: Monitors Symbol Technologies wireless infrastructure performance metrics and capacity measurement objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WS-INFRA-PM-MIB?

WS-INFRA-PM-MIB is a Symbol Technologies (wireless switch infrastructure, later Motorola/Zebra) proprietary MIB described as a "process monitor module" for wireless infrastructure performance measurement. It is intended to expose performance and capacity metrics for the wireless switching infrastructure, such as throughput, session counts, or resource utilization figures relevant to a wireless LAN controller. As a performance-monitoring MIB, its core purpose is tracking the operational load and capacity health of the wireless infrastructure device itself, functioning similarly to a process/resource monitor that would reveal high utilization or capacity exhaustion before it degrades wireless service. No module description text or sample objects were available to confirm specific tables, so exact object names cannot be cited. It likely operates as part of Symbol/Motorola's broader WS (wireless switch) enterprise MIB family rather than standard IETF performance MIBs. It would be deployed in enterprise wireless LAN environments using Symbol/Motorola wireless switches and access point controllers. Engineers can download the WS-INFRA-PM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-INFRA-PM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol/Motorola wireless switch/controller

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were available for this module, so no specific object or table names can be cited; typically a performance-monitor MIB of this kind would be polled for controller-level resource/capacity utilization metrics to detect a wireless switch approaching a client or session capacity limit, but this could not be confirmed from the available data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • wireless infrastructure performance/capacity metrics (unconfirmed, no sample objects available)

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using wsInfraProcMonSystemRestartCnt OID:

Select a Symbol/Motorola wireless switch/controller (throughput/session-count/resource-utilization status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type wsInfraProcMonSystemRestartCnt into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the system restart count. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value increases unexpectedly between polls, since each increment reflects a system restart, typically caused by a fault or manual intervention. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
