Description: Manages Symbol Technologies wireless switch access control list rules, policy binding, and packet filter statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WS-SW-ACL-MIB?

WS-SW-ACL-MIB is a Symbol Technologies (Motorola) proprietary MIB for the vendor's wireless switch product line, covering access-control list (ACL) and NAT configuration used to filter and translate traffic on the switch. It exposes configuration data such as ACL rule definitions, rule-to-interface/policy bindings, and packet filter match/drop statistics. For monitoring purposes it is used primarily to track the operational effect of security policy on the device, i.e., how many packets each ACL rule has permitted or denied, which is a useful indicator of misconfigured filters or active attack traffic rather than physical hardware health. It depends on the vendor's underlying wireless switch platform MIB for interface and system identification context. It is deployed in enterprise wireless network environments where Symbol/Motorola wireless switches enforce perimeter or per-VLAN traffic filtering and address translation. Engineers can download the WS-SW-ACL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WS-SW-ACL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Symbol Technologies/Motorola wireless switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were supplied for this module, so specific table/object names cannot be quoted; typically an admin would poll per-rule packet counters (an ACL statistics table keyed by rule ID) to see hit/drop counts per policy. A sudden spike in denied-packet counters on a specific ACL entry would indicate either a misapplied rule blocking legitimate traffic or a burst of traffic matching a security filter, such as a probe or scan.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ACL rule definitions
  • rule-to-port/policy bindings
  • packet permit/deny counters
  • NAT translation configuration
