Description: TIMETRA-WLAN-GW-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-WLAN-GW-MIB?

TIMETRA-WLAN-GW-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent (now Nokia, following its acquisition of Alcatel-Lucent's IP/optical/SR portfolio) vendor-private MIB for the WLAN Gateway function on the 7xxx Service Router (SR OS/Timetra) platform, which anchors Wi-Fi subscriber traffic and tunnels it toward a mobile packet core. It defines ISA (Integrated Service Adapter) resource objects (tmnxWlanGwIsaObjs), soft-GRE tunnel objects (tmnxWlanGwSoftGreObjs) for encapsulating subscriber traffic to a mobile gateway, and mobile-gateway objects (tmnxWlanGwMgwObjs, tmnxWlanGwMgwProfTable, tmnxWlanGwMgwAddrTable) that reuse mobile-profile constructs like APN, IMSI, and bearer ID from TIMETRA-MOBILE-PROFILE-MIB, reflecting the gateway's role in Wi-Fi/3GPP interworking rather than pure Wi-Fi access-point management. Per-subscriber and per-SSID state is tracked in tmnxWlanGwUeTable (User Equipment sessions) and tmnxWlanGwSsidTable, while tmnxWlanGwIfRetailTable and tmnxWlanGwTable expose interface and gateway-instance level configuration. This is useful for monitoring how many Wi-Fi subscriber sessions are anchored on a given gateway and whether soft-GRE tunnels to the mobile core are established. It depends on TIMETRA-MOBILE-PROFILE-MIB, TIMETRA-CHASSIS-MIB, and TIMETRA-VRTR-MIB for shared profile, chassis, and virtual-router context, and is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7xxx Service Routers configured as WLAN gateways, and the TIMETRA-WLAN-GW-MIB MIB documents every one of these objects in detail.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-WLAN-GW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia 7xxx Service Router (SR OS) platforms configured as WLAN Gateways
  • Nokia/Alcatel-Lucent 7750 SR (WLAN Gateway feature)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tmnxWlanGwUeTable to count active User Equipment sessions on a WLAN gateway instance and checks tmnxWlanGwMgwAddrTable for reachability of the configured mobile gateway addresses; a growing UE table alongside an unreachable Mgw address would indicate subscriber sessions are being anchored but their soft-GRE tunnels to the mobile core cannot be established.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active User Equipment (UE) session table entries
  • per-SSID session state
  • soft-GRE tunnel/mobile-gateway objects
  • mobile gateway profile and address table entries
  • ISA resource group utilization
  • retail interface configuration entries
