Description: TIMETRA-GSMP-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TIMETRA-GSMP-MIB?

TIMETRA-GSMP-MIB is an Alcatel-Lucent (Timetra/Nokia) vendor-private MIB for the SROS operating system, registered at tmnxSRObjs.39, that manages GSMP (General Switch Management Protocol) -- used in these platforms as the transport for ANCP (Access Node Control Protocol) signaling to DSL/broadband access nodes. It defines a tmnxGsmpConfigTable, indexed by svcId, that exposes tmnxGsmpCfgAdminState to enable GSMP per service, and a tmnxGsmpGroupConfigTable, indexed by svcId and tmnxGsmpGroupName, whose entries configure a GSMP neighbor group's tmnxGsmpGrpCfgAdminState, tmnxGsmpGrpCfgKeepalive and tmnxGsmpGrpCfgHoldMultiplier timers, and ANCP-specific capability flags tmnxGsmpGrpCfgAncpOamCap and tmnxGsmpGrpCfgAncpDynTopoDiscCap, with tmnxGsmpCfgLastChange/tmnxGsmpGrpCfgLastChange timestamps tracking configuration drift. Because GSMP/ANCP sessions underpin dynamic access-line topology discovery and OAM signaling between the service router and access nodes, monitoring keepalive/hold-multiplier settings and admin state is useful for diagnosing lost or flapping ANCP adjacencies to DSLAMs. It depends on TIMETRA-GLOBAL-MIB for its registration tree, TIMETRA-TC-MIB for shared textual conventions like TmnxAdminState, and TIMETRA-SERV-MIB/TIMETRA-SAP-MIB for the service and SAP identifiers it references; it is deployed on Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia SROS routers such as the 7750 SR acting as broadband network gateways, and administrators can find the TIMETRA-GSMP-MIB MIB useful when troubleshooting GSMP/ANCP adjacencies to access nodes.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TIMETRA-GSMP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Alcatel-Lucent / Nokia SROS-based service routers (7750 SR and related Timetra-based platforms)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tmnxGsmpGroupConfigTable to confirm tmnxGsmpGrpCfgAdminState is inService for the GSMP group serving a set of DSLAMs, and checks tmnxGsmpGrpCfgKeepalive/HoldMultiplier against the expected session-timeout budget; a group whose tmnxGsmpGrpCfgLastChange timestamp updates unexpectedly often would indicate the GSMP/ANCP adjacency is flapping, likely due to network instability toward the access nodes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GSMP admin state per service
  • GSMP group admin state and row status
  • GSMP keepalive timer and hold multiplier
  • ANCP OAM capability state
  • ANCP dynamic topology discovery capability
  • config-table last-changed timestamps

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using tmnxAncpSesStatRxDrop OID:

Select an Alcatel-Lucent/Nokia SROS-based service routers, e.g. 7750 SR (GSMP/ANCP neighbor-adjacency status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type tmnxAncpSesStatRxDrop into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The value of tmnxAncpSesStatRxDrop indicates the number of GSMP protocol messages that have been received and then dropped by the system without further processing them. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
