Description: IFCP-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IFCP-MIB?

This is an IETF standards MIB for managing internet Fibre Channel Protocol (iFCP), a protocol for transporting Fibre Channel storage traffic over IP networks via gateway-to-gateway SAN-over-IP tunneling. No sample objects were available for this module, so its specific tables cannot be enumerated with confidence, but an iFCP MIB of this kind would typically expose gateway/session status, N_Port-to-IP address mapping, and session-level counters. Where such objects exist, they would be used to monitor the operational status of iFCP gateway sessions carrying storage traffic across an IP WAN, i.e. whether a session is up, degraded, or has faulted. As an IP-based Fibre Channel transport it necessarily depends on and interoperates with standard Fibre Channel management MIBs and IP-layer MIBs. It would typically be deployed on storage-area-network (SAN) gateway devices bridging Fibre Channel fabrics over an IP backbone for remote replication or disaster recovery links. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IFCP-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IFCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, IETF standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • Fibre Channel-over-IP (iFCP) SAN gateway

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so specific object names cannot be grounded from the input; in general, an iFCP MIB of this kind would be polled to check gateway session status, and any session flapping between up and down would indicate an IP-network connectivity problem affecting the Fibre-Channel-over-IP link between two SAN sites.

RFC description

Defined in RFC 6173, provides management objects for Internet Fibre Channel Protocol (iFCP) gateway instances and their sessions. Enables SNMP monitoring and control of iFCP gateways that bridge Fibre Channel and IP networks.
