Description: MIB for tracking configuration change and inventory events — software upgrades, IP changes, user logins, and provisioning actions — on Smartoptics optical network elements

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-EVENT-MIB?

SL-EVENT-MIB is a vendor MIB from Smartoptics that provides a generic event and inventory-change log for network elements on its SiteLight optical transport platform. Rather than exposing live performance counters, it records discrete configuration and inventory events — software upgrades, IP address changes, user logins, and provisioning actions — each tagged with the type of event, its value, the user who triggered it, and identifying tags. This makes it a software/configuration-status monitoring MIB: slEventType and slEventVal let an operator audit what changed, slEventUser attributes changes to a specific operator for accountability, and the companion slEventInventoryTable tracks inventory actions such as module insertion/removal or firmware updates. It is part of the SiteLight family and complements the real-time telemetry exposed by sibling MIBs like SL-EDFA-MIB and SL-DCM-MIB. It is deployed on SiteLight optical network elements where change-tracking and audit logging of configuration and inventory events is required for operational or compliance purposes, making SL-EVENT-MIB SNMP monitoring a key part of audit-focused optical network deployments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport platform

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll slEventConfigTable/slEventConfigEntry indexed by slEventIfIndex to review recent configuration events, examining slEventType and slEventVal to see exactly what setting changed and slEventUser to identify who made the change, with slEventCtag/slEventTid providing correlation and transaction identifiers. The slEventInventoryTable/slEventInventoryEntry indexed by slEventInventoryIfIndex records hardware inventory actions via slEventInventoryAction, such as a module swap or firmware upgrade, and a trap from slEventTraps0 would notify the NOC in real time when a notable event occurs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configuration change events
  • event type and value
  • user who made a change
  • inventory change actions
  • event/transaction correlation tags
