Category: DSL and Broadband, Optical Networking

Description: Adds Paradyne-specific section, line, and path performance monitoring parameters to the standard SONET MIB objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-SONETEXT-MIB?

PDN-SONETEXT-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB that extends the standard SONET MIB with vendor-specific section, line, and path performance monitoring parameters for SONET interfaces on Paradyne devices. It exposes configuration objects such as transmit clock source selection alongside status objects tracking interface state changes and associated trap enablement. As a SONET transport MIB it is used to monitor hardware-level interface status, specifically link up/down transitions, timing source configuration, and the timing of the last status change, which are key indicators of physical-layer health on optical transport links. It is explicitly an extension of the standard SONET-MIB (RFC 2558), reusing its indexing and layering conventions while adding Paradyne-specific objects. It is typically deployed on Paradyne SONET-capable access or transport equipment in carrier network environments. Engineers can download the PDN-SONETEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-SONETEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne SONET transport equipment
  • SONET-capable access device

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll devSonetConfigTable/devSonetConfigEntry, indexed by devSonetIfIndex, to check devSonetXmitClkSrc and confirm the correct timing source is selected for a SONET interface. Monitoring devSonetStatusLastChange reveals when a SONET link last transitioned state, useful for correlating with a reported outage. Enabling devSonetStatusChangeTrapEnable ensures devSonetTraps notifications fire promptly when a SONET interface changes status, such as an unexpected line failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SONET transmit clock source
  • interface status last-change time
  • status-change trap enablement
  • SONET interface configuration
