Category: DSL and Broadband, QoS

Description: Manages DSL spectrum management profiles including power spectral density masks and interference mitigation settings on Paradyne DSLAM gear.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PDN-SPECTRUMMGMT-MIB?

PDN-SPECTRUMMGMT-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB for spectrum management on xDSL interfaces, covering power spectral density (PSD) profiles, loop measurement methods, and interference mitigation settings, and explicitly superseding the older ReachDSL spectrum management MIB. It exposes general and per-line spectrum management configuration tables that define modes, loop lengths, equivalent working length (EWL) parameters, and quadrature/duplex mode selection. It is used to monitor the software configuration status of DSL spectrum management features and per-line settings, helping detect misconfigured PSD masks or mode mismatches that can degrade DSL line performance, rather than exposing physical chassis health sensors. As an enterprise-specific replacement/extension it does not map directly onto a single IETF standard, though it parallels concepts in generic xDSL line MIBs. It is deployed on Paradyne DSLAM platforms provisioning and tuning xDSL subscriber lines. Engineers can download the PDN-SPECTRUMMGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-SPECTRUMMGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Paradyne DSLAM
  • xDSL access equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would inspect newSpectrumMgmtGeneralConfigTable/Entry for newSpectrumMgmtSelection and newSpectrumMgmtMode to confirm the correct spectrum management scheme is applied fleet-wide, then check newSpectrumMgmtConfTable/Entry fields like newSpectrumMgmtConfEWL and newSpectrumMgmtConfLoopLength per line to validate loop-length-dependent tuning. Reviewing newSpectrumMgmtLineInfoTable would reveal current per-line spectrum parameters in effect. A mismatch between configured newSpectrumMgmtConfQuadMode and actual line performance could point to a provisioning error causing reduced DSL throughput.

What Can Be Monitored

  • spectrum management mode/selection
  • PSD mask configuration
  • loop length and EWL parameters
  • quad mode setting
  • per-line spectrum info
