What Is NBS-ODSYS-MIB?

NBS-ODSYS-MIB is a vendor MIB from MRV Communications for managing their Opti-Driver optical networking chassis systems, part of the same NBS product family as NBS-OPTIC-MIB and NBS-STATS-MIB. It exposes chassis-level inventory objects describing the number of installed common cards, power supplies, and fan trays per chassis, along with a per-card table mapping each common card to its chassis, bay, and channel interface index. This is explicitly a hardware-inventory and status MIB: administrators use it to confirm the physical configuration of an Opti-Driver chassis, how many card slots, power supplies, and fan trays are present and populated, which is foundational to detecting missing or failed hardware modules such as a power supply or fan tray. It shares the "nbs" naming convention and chassis/bay/index scheme with other MRV NBS-series MIBs that jointly model the same physical platform. It is deployed in optical/DWDM network environments using MRV Opti-Driver chassis, where NBS-ODSYS-MIB SNMP monitoring is common in metro or enterprise optical transport networks.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-ODSYS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls nbsOdsysChasTable, keyed by nbsOdsysChasIndex, to read nbsOdsysChasCcMaxCount, nbsOdsysChasPsMaxCount, and nbsOdsysChasFtMaxCount and confirm the expected number of common cards, power supplies, and fan trays are installed in a given chassis. Cross-referencing nbsOdsysCcTable entries, nbsOdsysCcChasIndex, nbsOdsysCcBayIndex, and nbsOdsysCcChIfIndex, maps each installed common card to its physical bay and associated channel interface for fault isolation. If the actual installed card count falls below nbsOdsysChasCcMaxCount, this suggests a card has been removed or failed to be detected by the chassis.
