Description: Extends IEEE 802.1Q VLAN management with Paradyne-specific port tagging, ingress-filtering, and PVID configuration objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PDN-DOT1QEXT-MIB?
This is a Paradyne Corporation enterprise MIB that extends the standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN MIB (RFC 2674) with vendor-specific per-VLAN and per-port configuration objects not covered by the base standard. It exposes VLAN-level configuration data such as secure mode status, proxy ARP status, uplink designation, default next-hop router, and outer (Q-in-Q) tag/priority/ethertype settings, along with a port-level PIWG table. It is used to monitor the configuration/software status of VLAN security and tagging features, confirming whether secure mode or proxy ARP is enabled per VLAN, and whether Q-in-Q outer tagging parameters are set correctly, which helps diagnose VLAN isolation or double-tagging issues. It has an explicit, stated dependency on the IETF Q-BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 2674), whose VLAN objects it augments with these additional configuration parameters. It is typically deployed on Paradyne access devices providing VLAN-aware Ethernet access, including Q-in-Q service-provider VLAN tunneling scenarios. Engineers can download the PDN-DOT1QEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-DOT1QEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Paradyne Corporation VLAN-aware access device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll pdnDot1qVlanStaticExtTable (via pdnDot1qVlanStaticExtEntry) to check pdnDot1qVlanStaticSecureModeStatus and pdnDot1qVlanStaticProxyArpStatus for a given VLAN, confirming security features are enabled as expected. Checking pdnDot1qVlanStaticOuterTag, pdnDot1qVlanStaticOuterDefaultPriority, and pdnDot1qVlanStaticOuterEthertype would reveal whether Q-in-Q outer-tag parameters match what the upstream provider network expects, explaining a double-tagging mismatch. The pdnDot1qVlanStaticUplink and pdnDot1qVlanStaticDefaultNHR objects would confirm which port is designated uplink and which router handles default traffic for the VLAN, giving operators fine control-plane visibility beyond the base 802.1Q MIB.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN secure mode status
- proxy ARP status per VLAN
- uplink port designation
- Q-in-Q outer tag/priority/ethertype
- default next-hop router configuration
