Category: Switching

Description: Manages VLAN creation, port membership, and inter-VLAN routing parameters on the 3Com PowerHub platform.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is POWERHUB-VLAN-MIB?

POWERHUB-VLAN-MIB is a 3Com-proprietary MIB for the legacy PowerHub platform, covering VLAN and 802.1Q bridging management. It exposes configuration-oriented data: VLAN identifiers, names, creation method, type, port-group membership, MAC-based VLAN mapping, protocol-based classification, and IP subnet-to-VLAN association. Its monitoring role is chiefly around software/configuration status: administrators use it to confirm VLAN row status (active, notReady, destroy) and membership state, verifying that VLAN provisioning has taken effect correctly, rather than hardware health. It builds on the IEEE 802.1Q VLAN model (mirrored in its "Dot1q" naming) and depends on the device's own bridging/VLAN subsystem rather than a standard IETF VLAN MIB. It is deployed on legacy 3Com PowerHub switches/routers in enterprise LAN environments that use VLAN segmentation. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the POWERHUB-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in POWERHUB-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • 3Com PowerHub switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An admin polling preDot1qVlanConfTable would read preDot1qVlanID and preDot1qVlanName alongside preDot1qVlanConfRowStatus to confirm a newly created VLAN is active; a row stuck in a non-active RowStatus state indicates a failed VLAN commit. preDot1qVlanPortGroupInstance and preDot1qVlanMacListInstance reveal which ports or MAC groups belong to the VLAN, useful for troubleshooting unexpected traffic isolation. preDot1qVlanProtocolType/Subtype would be checked when protocol-based VLAN classification is used, such as isolating legacy protocol traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN name and ID
  • VLAN row status (create/active/destroy)
  • VLAN port group membership
  • VLAN creation method
  • VLAN protocol type/subtype classification
  • VLAN-to-IP-subnet mapping
