What Is PDN-BRIDGE-MIB?
This is a Paradyne Corporation enterprise MIB that manages IEEE 802.1D/802.1Q bridging functionality on their access/transport devices, covering the bridge forwarding database, port state, and VLAN membership. It exposes bridging-layer data including the transparent bridging forwarding database mapping MAC addresses to ports, plus generic bridge configuration objects. It is used to monitor the software/configuration status of the bridging function, confirming which MAC addresses are learned on which ports and whether bridge ports are in a forwarding or blocking state, which helps diagnose Layer 2 loops, incorrect VLAN forwarding, or unexpected MAC learning behavior. It has an explicit, stated dependency on the standard IEEE 802.1D bridge MIB conventions, which it extends for Paradyne's platform. It is typically deployed on Paradyne DSL/access devices that perform Ethernet bridging as part of a broader access network, and administrators can download the PDN-BRIDGE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-BRIDGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Paradyne Corporation DSL/access bridging device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll the pdnDot1dTpFdb table to look up which MAC addresses are currently associated with which bridge port, verifying expected customer device MACs are learned correctly. Checking pdnDot1dTp port state objects would reveal whether a port is stuck in a blocking state due to spanning tree, explaining a customer connectivity complaint. An unexpected MAC address appearing on the wrong port could indicate a misconfigured VLAN or a Layer 2 loop introduced by a rogue switch, giving bridge-layer visibility complementing the device's higher-layer interface and VLAN monitoring.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC address forwarding database (FDB) entries
- bridge port forwarding/blocking state
- VLAN membership
- generic bridge configuration status
