Category: WAN

Description: Provides SNMP management objects for PAD (Packet Assembler/Disassembler) optional feature configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PAD-OPT-MIB?

PAD-OPT-MIB is a legacy SNMP module providing optional configuration objects for Packet Assembler/Disassembler (PAD) functionality, an X.25 packet-switching feature historically found on network access devices such as Cabletron/Cisco CDX-series equipment. It defines protocol-group configuration objects tied to specific port groups (referenced via cdx6500-prefixed identifiers), used to enable or tune PAD-related protocol handling on those ports. Its monitoring relevance is narrow and configuration-oriented — it primarily reflects the software/protocol configuration state of PAD support on specific interface groups rather than general hardware or performance telemetry. No strong dependency on other MIBs is evident beyond the base device's core enterprise MIB defining the underlying port/protocol groups. It would have been deployed on legacy X.25/PAD-capable access equipment where administrators needed to verify or adjust optional PAD protocol handling per port group, consulting a PAD-OPT-MIB reference to confirm the cdx6500-prefixed object names for their equipment.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PAD-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • CDX6500-series X.25/PAD access device
  • legacy packet-switching access equipment

Monitoring Examples

The available sample objects, cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup, suggest this MIB is used to check or set the protocol group configuration for specific port types (PCT/PST) on CDX6500-series equipment rather than to monitor live traffic counters. An administrator would poll these objects to confirm PAD protocol handling is correctly enabled on the intended port group after a configuration change, rather than to track ongoing performance metrics.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PAD protocol group configuration per port
