Description: Manages NMS Communications terminal server port configuration and async line session parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-TS?

NMS-TS is a vendor MIB from NMS Communications that manages terminal server functionality, covering configuration of asynchronous serial line ports and their session parameters for out-of-band or console access to attached equipment. It exposes configuration data describing per-line settings such as baud rate, session type, and access control for each async port. Its monitoring value is in software/configuration and session status: confirming each terminal line is configured as expected and, where session-state objects exist, whether a line currently has an active user session, which helps detect unauthorized or stuck console sessions. No explicit dependency on other MIBs is documented. It is deployed on NMS Communications equipment that includes terminal server or console-aggregation ports, commonly used in carrier or enterprise network operations centers for out-of-band device access. Engineers can download the NMS-TS file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-TS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NMS Communications terminal server

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll a per-line configuration table to confirm the expected baud rate and session parameters are applied to each async port, and check line-session-status objects (if present) to identify whether a port has an unexpectedly long-running or orphaned session that should be reset. No specific table or object names were included in the sample data for this MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-line serial port configuration
  • session status per line
