Category: WAN

Description: Manages Peribit Networks WAN optimization appliances, providing tunnel compression ratios, throughput, and peer session statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PB-MIB?

PB-MIB is Peribit Networks' vendor-specific MIB for its WAN optimization/compression appliances, used to manage and monitor traffic-compression tunnels between branch and data-center appliances. It exposes appliance configuration (maximum session count) and per-session data for each optimized tunnel - destination slot/channel/session identifiers and session row lifecycle state - reflecting active WAN optimization sessions. Its monitoring focus is on software/service status - tracking how many compression sessions are active versus the configured maximum, and the state of individual peer sessions - functioning as an indicator of appliance load and WAN link utilization rather than raw hardware health. As a self-contained enterprise MIB registered under the shared usr/nas enterprise OID tree, it isn't dependent on standard IETF MIBs for its core function. It's deployed in pairs at branch-office and data-center edges to accelerate and compress WAN traffic between sites. Engineers can download the PB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Peribit Networks WAN optimization appliance

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll pbCfgTable/pbCfgEntry via pbCfgIndex to check pbCfgMaxSessions against the current count of active rows in pbSessionTable/pbSessionEntry (indexed by pbSessionEntityIndex and pbSessionIndex), revealing whether the appliance is approaching its session capacity limit. pbSessionDestSlot, pbSessionDestChan, and pbSessionDestSess identify which peer appliance and channel a given optimized session is paired with, while pbSessionRowState shows whether that session is active, idle, or being torn down.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active compression session count
  • configured max sessions
  • per-session peer/destination mapping
  • session state (active/idle/torn down)
