What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-FrameRelayMuxMIB?
Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-FrameRelayMuxMIB is a Nortel Networks vendor-private MIB for the MscPassport carrier switching platform that models the Frame Relay Multiplexer/Demultiplexer (FrMux) component used by the DPN Gateway as a frame-relay transport mechanism. Under the mscFrMux component tree it defines row-status, operational-status, interface, and per-CID data tables for the FrMux instance itself, and breaks the same lifecycle/state/statistics pattern out for each sub-layer: the Framer (mscFrMuxFramerStateTable, mscFrMuxFramerStatsTable, mscFrMuxFramerUtilTable), the LMI/PSI signaling layer (mscFrMuxLmiStateTable, mscFrMuxLmiPsiTable, mscFrMuxLmiStatsTable), and the individual DLCIs carried over the mux (mscFrMuxDlciStateTable, mscFrMuxDlciAbitTable, mscFrMuxDlciStatsTable, plus mscFrMuxDlciApplInfo for per-DLCI application provisioning). This layered structure lets an operator monitor Frame Relay Mux health from the physical framer up through LMI signaling status to individual DLCI state and traffic counters, which is useful for isolating whether a frame-relay circuit problem originates at the physical/framer layer, the LMI control-plane layer, or a specific DLCI. It depends on the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-UsefulDefinitionsMIB and StandardTextualConventionsMIB for shared component/type definitions, and is deployed on Nortel MscPassport carrier switches, and the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-FrameRelayMuxMIB MIB documents each of these layered tables in full.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-FrameRelayMuxMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Nortel Networks MscPassport carrier switching platforms
Monitoring Examples
An operator checks mscFrMuxOperStatusTable to confirm the FrMux instance is operationally up, then drills into mscFrMuxLmiStateTable and mscFrMuxDlciStateTable for a specific DLCI; an LMI state showing down while the framer layer reports up would indicate a signaling-layer problem rather than a physical-layer fault on that frame-relay circuit.
What Can Be Monitored
- Frame Relay Mux operational/row status
- framer layer state and utilization counters
- LMI/PSI signaling state and statistics
- per-DLCI state, A-bit status, and traffic statistics
- per-DLCI application provisioning entries
