What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-IpCosMIB?

Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-IpCosMIB provides SNMP objects for IP Class of Service (CoS/DiffServ-style) policy configuration on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches, managing how IP traffic is grouped and prioritized through policy groups (Pg). It defines row status/provisioning tables for each IP policy group component, a users table tracking values/membership assigned to a policy group, and a separate policy row-status table governing the CoS policy rules themselves. This lets an operator monitor whether an IP CoS policy group is provisioned and active, how many users/flows are assigned to it, and whether the associated CoS policy rules are correctly applied -- a configuration and QoS-status monitoring function for the switch's IP traffic-prioritization software. It builds on general DiffServ/CoS concepts alongside the Passport RowStatus/StorageType conventions used throughout the MIB family. It is used on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches providing IP CoS/QoS-differentiated services in carrier IP/VPN backbone networks. Engineers can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-IpCosMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-IpCosMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switch (IP CoS/QoS)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls mscVrIpPgRowStatusTable to confirm an IP CoS policy group is active, then checks mscVrIpPgUsersTable's mscVrIpPgUsersValue and mscVrIpPgUsersRowStatus to see which users or flows are currently assigned to that policy group. Cross-referencing mscVrIpPgPolicyRowStatusTable confirms whether the associated CoS policy rules for the group are provisioned and enabled. A policy group with an unexpectedly low active-user count compared to provisioning intent could indicate a misapplied policy assignment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP policy group status
  • assigned users/flows per policy group
  • CoS policy rule status
  • component storage type
