What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VnsMIB?
This is a proprietary Nortel Magellan Passport MIB for Virtual Networking Services (VNS), a legacy Nortel Passport WAN switch feature providing logical/virtual network overlays. It exposes row-status-based provisioning objects for VNS components (component name, storage type, index) plus a provisioning table capturing logical network number, link-to-protocol-port association, and maximum transmission unit for each virtual network service instance. Its monitoring value is chiefly in configuration/software provisioning status: RowStatus values indicate whether a VNS instance is active, not in service, or being provisioned, and MTU settings can be checked against expected link parameters to catch fragmentation-related faults. It relies on the vendor's proprietary Magellan-Passport enterprise SMI conventions rather than IETF-standard MIBs. It is typically deployed on legacy Nortel Magellan Passport carrier WAN switches used by telecom carriers for multiservice/virtual network overlay provisioning, now largely retired equipment. Checking rtgVnsRowStatusTable's rtgVnsRowStatus for a given rtgVnsIndex confirms whether a VNS instance is active or stuck in a notInService/createAndWait state, indicating an incomplete provisioning step. rtgVnsProvTable's rtgVnsLogicalNetworkNumber and rtgVnsMaximumTransmissionUnit let an operator verify the virtual network is bound to the correct logical network and that MTU matches the underlying link, since an MTU mismatch here would explain fragmentation or connectivity issues on that VNS instance.
