What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-ShelfMIB?

This Nortel vendor MIB manages physical shelf hardware inventory and status on Magellan Passport chassis-based switches, covering shelf and card-level provisioning and operational state. It exposes shelf row-status/provisioning tables (comment text, storage type) and an operational status table for shelves, following the Passport family's common component/row-status modeling pattern. It is used to monitor hardware status directly — shelf and card presence, provisioning state, and operational status — helping an operator detect a shelf or card that has gone out of service or is misprovisioned within the chassis. It shares its modeling conventions with sibling Nortel Passport MIBs (voice networking, trunks), indicating a common management architecture across the product line. It is deployed in legacy Nortel/Magellan Passport multiservice switching chassis used in carrier and enterprise WAN environments. Anyone bringing a legacy Magellan Passport chassis under SNMP management for the first time will need a Nortel-Magellan-Passport-ShelfMIB download alongside the sibling trunk and voice-networking modules to fully represent the shelf hierarchy.

Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls shelfProvTable/shelfProvEntry (keyed by shelfIndex) to review shelfCommentText and provisioning details for each shelf, and checks shelfOperTable/shelfOperEntry for the shelf's current operational status to detect a shelf that has failed or is out of service. shelfRowStatusTable's shelfRowStatus reflects whether a shelf entry is active or being provisioned, and shelfCard objects extend this to individual card status within the shelf.
