Description: Manages GPS-synchronized timing and frequency reference on EndRun Technologies Meridian II systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MERIDIAN2-MIB?

MERIDIAN2-MIB is an EndRun Technologies enterprise MIB for the Meridian II, a GPS-disciplined time and frequency reference appliance used to synchronize network clocks. It exposes GNTP (GPS network time protocol) statistics including packets sent/received, IRQs handled, dropped/ignored packets, authentication failures, and a time figure-of-merit with leap-second indicator bits. It is used heavily for timing and software health status monitoring, since the figure-of-merit reflects how well the local clock is currently disciplined to GPS, while rising dropped-packet, ignored-packet, or authentication-failure counts indicate the time service is overloaded or under attack. It is an enterprise MIB under the EndRun Technologies OID branch and parallels concepts in the standard IETF NTP MIB (RFC 5907) without directly importing from it. It is deployed on precision time servers in telecom, financial, and laboratory environments that require GPS-disciplined NTP/PTP timing, and administrators can download the MERIDIAN2-MIB file to integrate it into their monitoring platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MERIDIAN2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • EndRun Technologies Meridian II GPS time server

Monitoring Examples

Polling gntpTimeFigureOfMerit gauges how well-disciplined the local clock is versus the GPS reference, and gntpLeapIndBits detects an upcoming leap-second event. Watching gntpDroppedPkts, gntpIgnoredPkts, and gntpAuthFail for rising counts indicates malformed or unauthorized time requests overwhelming the server. gntpTxPkts, gntpRxPkts, and gntpSentPktsPerSecond show overall time-service load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • time figure of merit (clock accuracy)
  • leap indicator bits
  • packets sent/received per second
  • dropped and ignored packets
  • authentication failure count
  • time since reset

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using gntpTimeSinceRst OID:

Select an EndRun Technologies Meridian II GPS-disciplined time/frequency reference as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type gntpTimeSinceRst into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the time since NTP daemon restart. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
