Description: IB-SM-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IB-SM-MIB?

IB-SM-MIB is a vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB defining managed objects for InfiniBand Subnet Managers (SM), the control-plane entities responsible for discovering, configuring, and monitoring an InfiniBand fabric's topology and routing. Although no sample objects were available, such an MIB would typically expose subnet manager state, master/standby SM role, topology discovery status, and fabric configuration parameters. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring lies in reporting the operational state of the subnet manager itself (e.g., active vs. standby, last sweep time) and the health of the fabric it manages, which underpins high-performance computing and storage interconnects. It is inherently tied to the InfiniBand Architecture Specification and complements other InfiniBand MIBs covering ports, switches, and HCAs. It is deployed in HPC clusters, data center fabrics, and storage area networks using InfiniBand interconnects. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IB-SM-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IB-SM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • InfiniBand subnet manager node/switch

Monitoring Examples

No concrete object or table names were provided in the source material for this MIB, so a specific monitoring scenario naming real objects cannot be constructed; in general use, an administrator would query subnet manager role and sweep-status objects to confirm which SM instance is currently mastering the fabric and that topology discovery is completing successfully.
