Description: Comet enterprise MIB for monitoring multi-channel environmental sensor stations, including alarm states, acoustic outputs, and per-channel measurements

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is COMETMS-MIB?

COMETMS-MIB is Comet System's enterprise MIB for their multi-channel environmental monitoring stations, which are devices that measure conditions like temperature, humidity, or other sensor inputs in server rooms and equipment cabinets. It exposes device identity information (name, serial number, type), self-test results, memory usage, accumulator/battery status, and a channel table holding per-sensor-channel names and values. This is directly a hardware/environment health monitoring MIB: selfTest reports the unit's internal diagnostic result, memUsg reflects onboard memory/software resource usage, intAcc/extAcc report internal/external accumulator (battery) status, and chTable/chEntry deliver the live environmental sensor readings (e.g., temperature, humidity) per channel. There's no explicit dependency on other MIBs stated. It's typically deployed in data centers, telecom shelters, or equipment rooms where Comet environmental monitoring units feed room-condition alarms into an NMS. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the COMETMS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COMETMS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Comet System multi-channel environmental sensor/monitoring station

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll chTable/chEntry, reading channelName and channelValue for each configured sensor channel to get live temperature/humidity readings from the monitoring station, and an anomalous chTable value (e.g., a sudden temperature spike) would indicate a cooling failure in the monitored space. Checking selfTest and memUsg confirms the unit itself is healthy and not experiencing internal faults or resource exhaustion. The intAcc/extAcc objects would be polled to verify the station's backup power/accumulator status, alerting on power issues that could take the sensor offline.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-channel sensor values (temperature/humidity/etc.)
  • self-test diagnostic result
  • internal and external accumulator (battery) status
  • memory usage
  • serial number and unit type
