What Is IB-TC-MIB?

IB-TC-MIB is an IETF-standardized (RFC) textual-conventions module that defines shared SNMP data types for managing InfiniBand devices supporting the IP-over-InfiniBand (IPoIB) protocol, such as link-width, link-speed, and port-state enumerations. It is vendor-neutral and does not itself expose any runtime tables or counters -- its sole purpose is to standardize how other InfiniBand MIBs represent values like negotiated link speed or port operational state. It therefore has no direct hardware/software status objects of its own, though the conventions it defines (e.g. port-state enumerations) are precisely what downstream InfiniBand MIBs use to report port up/down and link-degraded conditions. It is a foundational dependency for any full InfiniBand management MIB (such as an IB port or subnet-management MIB), which simply imports the IB-TC-MIB module by name to obtain these consistent type definitions. It is used wherever InfiniBand switches and host channel adapters are managed via SNMP in high-performance computing and data center fabrics.

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only textual conventions (link width, speed, and port-state enumerations); it has no runtime tables to poll directly, though other InfiniBand MIBs that import these types use them to represent live port speed/width/state values.
