Description: Manages Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) VN-port and FCF configuration on HP/Comware converged network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-FCOE-MIB?

This is an HP/H3C Comware (Hpnicf) enterprise MIB for configuring and monitoring Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) on converged network switches, defining virtual FC (VFC) interfaces that represent VF_Port or VE_Port roles on an FCoE Forwarder (FCF). It exposes FCoE configuration tables, FCoE map, dynamic VFC creation policy, default FCF priority, FCoE initialization protocol timers (DATov), addressing mode, plus a per-VLAN FCoE table tracking fabric index and VLAN operational state. It supports monitoring of the software/protocol status of the FCoE fabric, particularly hpnicfFCoEVLANOperState, which reveals whether FCoE-enabled VLANs are operationally up, helping detect FCoE fabric or FIP negotiation failures. It is built on Fibre Channel/FCoE standards defined by the FC-BB-5 specification and depends conceptually on standard FC and VLAN MIB concepts. Typical deployment is on HP/H3C Comware converged Ethernet/FCoE switches in data centers running unified LAN/SAN infrastructure. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-FCOE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-FCOE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware converged Ethernet/FCoE switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check hpnicfFCoECfgTable/hpnicfFCoECfgEntry for hpnicfFCoECfgFcmap, hpnicfFCoECfgDefaultFCFPriority, and hpnicfFCoECfgAddressingMode to confirm FCoE fabric configuration, then poll hpnicfFCoEVLANTable/hpnicfFCoEVLANEntry, indexed by hpnicfFCoEVLANIndex and hpnicfFCoEFabricIndex, for hpnicfFCoEVLANOperState. A VLAN stuck in a down operational state despite correct hpnicfFCoECfgDynamicVfcCreation settings would indicate a failed FIP FLOGI/ELP negotiation or an FCF reachability problem, and a misconfigured hpnicfFCoECfgDATov can cause repeated FCoE session drops.

What Can Be Monitored

  • FCoE VLAN operational state
  • FCoE map (FC-MAP) configuration
  • default FCF priority
  • dynamic VFC interface creation
  • FIP discovery advertisement timeout
