Category: Fibre Channel and Storage, Vendor: H3C/HH3C, Vendor: HP/HPE
Description: Configures the FCoE operational mode (FCF, NPV, or gateway) for FCoE-capable HP/Comware switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HPN-ICF-FCOE-MODE-MIB?
This MIB manages the Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) operating mode on HP/Comware switches, letting an administrator configure whether the device acts as an FCoE Forwarder (FCF), N_Port Virtualization (NPV) node, or FCoE gateway. It exposes configuration-oriented data, essentially the desired and current FCoE role of the device, rather than a broad set of performance counters. Its main monitoring use is confirming the software/configuration state of the FCoE feature: reading back hpnicfFcoeModeCfgMode confirms which mode is active, and hpnicfFcoeModeCfgLastResult reports whether the last mode-change attempt succeeded or failed, which is critical when validating a storage-network reconfiguration. FCoE functionality inherently depends on underlying Fibre Channel and Ethernet standards (e.g., FC-BB-5) though this module itself is a thin HP/Comware wrapper around mode selection. It is deployed on HP/Comware data-center switches that participate in a converged Fibre Channel over Ethernet fabric alongside SAN and LAN traffic. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-FCOE-MODE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-FCOE-MODE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/Comware FCoE-capable data center switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would read hpnicfFcoeModeCfgMode to confirm the switch is currently running in NPV rather than FCF mode, then set it and poll hpnicfFcoeModeCfgLastResult to verify the change applied successfully. If hpnicfFcoeModeCfgLastResult reports a failure after a configuration push, it flags a software-level misconfiguration (e.g., incompatible mode transition) before it disrupts the storage fabric. hpnicfFcoeModeMibObjects serves as the root object grouping these mode-management leaves.
What Can Be Monitored
- current FCoE operating mode
- configured FCoE mode
- last mode-change result/status
