What Is HP-ICF-8023-RPTR?

HP-ICF-8023-RPTR is a Hewlett-Packard vendor MIB that extends the standard IETF SNMP-REPEATER-MIB (802.3 Repeater MIB) and MAU-MIB with HP-specific objects for HP AdvanceStack 10BaseT repeater/hub products. It defines hpRptrBasicGroupTable and hpRptrBasicPtTable for chassis- and port-level repeater configuration, an hpRptrMonPtTable for per-port repeater monitoring, and an hpRpMauTable extending the standard MAU objects, alongside several now-deprecated single-repeater-segment scalars (hpRptrEntityName, hpRptrThinlanFault, hpRptrSqeEnabled, hpRptrRobustHealing) superseded when the MIB was split to support multi-segment chassis. It imports rptrPortAutoPartitionState from the base repeater MIB and rpMauMediaAvailable/rpMauIndex from MAU-MIB, so it only makes sense polled alongside those standard MIBs. Because repeaters/hubs forward at the physical layer, monitoring it is mostly about port auto-partition (segmentation) state and MAU media availability rather than higher-layer traffic, and it's deployed on legacy HP AdvanceStack hub/repeater hardware, where administrators can download the HP-ICF-8023-RPTR file to load it into their MIB browser.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpRptrMonPtUcastPackets OID:

Select an HP repeater/hub hardware as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpRptrMonPtUcastPackets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This counter is incremented by one for each unicast packet of valid frame length received on this port. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
