Description: Fib-sys module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Fib-sys?

Fib-sys is an older, vendor-specific system MIB (the naming and object prefixes suggest a router/bridge vendor's proprietary transparent-bridging/forwarding subsystem) providing objects related to trap-address learning for a bridging or routing table. It exposes a trap-address table capturing learned addresses, their community string, protocol version, address type, learning state, aging flags, and age, alongside global learning/aging control switches and a parallel port-level trap-address table. Its monitoring value is centered on software/forwarding-table status rather than physical sensors: an operator can use it to see which addresses have been learned onto the trap/forwarding table, whether learning and aging are currently enabled, and how old (aged) each entry is, which helps diagnose stale or incorrect forwarding/trap-target entries. No explicit external MIB dependency is indicated by the available metadata. It would be deployed on the specific vendor's router/switch hardware running the proprietary agent that implements this table. Engineers can download the Fib-sys file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Fib-sys. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fibronics networking equipment (legacy trap-address learning table) — Enterprise OID 22 resolves to Fibronics, previously left unidentified despite this same enterprise OID being confirmed elsewhere in this corpus (e.g. FIBRONICS-MIB, Fibronics-EtherSwitch-MIB).

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk rTrapAddrTable/rTrapAddrEntry to inspect rTrapAddrAddr, rTrapAddrComm, and rTrapAddrVer for each learned trap-destination or forwarding entry, and check rTrapAddrState and rTrapAddrAge to see whether an entry is still active or has aged out. rTrapLearning and rTrapAging are the global switches that would be checked to confirm whether the device is currently allowed to learn new addresses or age out old ones, and pTrapAddrTable represents the equivalent per-port version of this table for per-port trap-address tracking.

What Can Be Monitored

  • learned trap/forwarding address entries
  • entry state and age
  • global learning enable/disable
  • global aging enable/disable
  • per-port trap address entries
