Description: DMTF DMI-to-SNMP mapping agent MIB providing SNMP access to DMI component, group, and MIF metadata on managed systems

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DMTFDMI?

DMTFDMI is the core DMTF DMI-to-SNMP mapping agent MIB, exposing the metadata of the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) Service Layer itself rather than data from any one hardware subsystem. It provides tables describing every DMI component, group, and MIF class known to the agent, including dmiClassTable entries that record each class's OID, name, version, key count, and description length. In monitoring terms this MIB is used less for hardware telemetry and more for software/agent status: it lets a management station enumerate what DMI instrumentation and MIF classes are currently registered and version-tracked on a managed system, useful for verifying the DMI agent is running correctly and that expected instrumentation classes are present. Because it is the mapping layer itself, virtually every other DMTF-translated MIB (such as DMTF-LAN-ADAPTER-MIB and DMTF-MOBILE-MIB) depends on the DMI service layer this MIB describes. It is deployed on DMI-instrumented systems, primarily legacy PCs, servers, and workstations from the DMI era, wherever an SNMP-to-DMI mapping agent is running, and it remains a useful DMTFDMI reference for engineers maintaining legacy DMI-instrumented hardware.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DMTFDMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • DMI-instrumented PC, server, or workstation
  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer

Monitoring Examples

An admin can poll dmiClassTable/dmiClassEntry (indexed by dmiClassIndex) to read dmiClassString, dmiClassName, dmiClassVersion, and dmiClassOID, confirming which MIF class definitions and versions the DMI Service Layer currently has registered, and cross-check dmiAttributeTable for the attributes each class exposes. A missing expected class, or a class version that unexpectedly changed after a software update, would indicate an inconsistency in the DMI instrumentation on that host. This is fundamentally a metadata/inventory MIB rather than one exposing live performance counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • registered DMI class/MIF inventory
  • DMI class version
  • DMI class OID and key count
  • DMI attribute definitions per class
