What Is Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB?
Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB is a Dell extension to the standard Bridge MIB, adding vendor-specific objects (the "rl" prefix reflects its RapidCity/Redline switching lineage) for Layer 2 switching features such as per-VLAN Spanning Tree and port priority groups on Dell switches. It exposes configuration data for VLAN-aware Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) behavior, port priority group assignments, and STP enable/type settings, plus a trap-variable object for STP-related notifications. Its monitoring value is centered on software/protocol configuration status rather than physical hardware — administrators use it to confirm STP is enabled and operating in the expected mode per VLAN, and to catch misconfigurations that could cause loops or blocked ports. Network engineers working with the Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB MIB typically load it alongside the standard BRIDGE-MIB (dot1dBridge) in their management tool, since its object names and semantics parallel and augment that IETF standard. It is deployed on Dell Ethernet switches running Layer 2 switching software in enterprise networks.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-VLAN spanning tree status
- STP enable/type configuration
- port priority group assignment
- STP topology-change traps
Supported Devices
- Dell PowerSwitch E3248P-ON — current-gen access switch, the recommended upgrade path from the EOL N2000-series
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll rldot1dStpVlanTable/rldot1dStpVlanEntry to check rldot1dStpVlan status and rldot1dStpEnable per VLAN, confirming STP is active where expected. rldot1dPriorityPortGroupTable/rldot1dPriorityPortGroupEntry indexed by rldot1dPriorityPortGroupNumber reveals which ports are grouped for priority-based forwarding decisions. rldot1dStpTrapVariable can be checked to correlate incoming STP-related traps with the specific object that changed, useful when diagnosing an unexpected topology change.

FAQ
What would I check with Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB on a Dell switch to prevent a Layer 2 loop?
It exposes per-VLAN Spanning Tree enable/type settings and port priority group assignments, letting an administrator confirm STP is enabled and operating in the expected mode per VLAN, plus a trap-variable object for STP topology-change notifications.
Is Dell-BRIDGEMIBOBJECTS-MIB used on its own or with the standard Bridge MIB?
It's typically loaded alongside the standard BRIDGE-MIB (dot1dBridge), since its object names and semantics parallel and augment that IETF standard — the "rl" prefix reflects its RapidCity/Redline switching lineage.
