Category: VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Dell

Description: Manages link aggregation groups (LAG/LACP) configuration and status for Dell Networking switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DELL-NETWORKING-LINK-AGGREGATION-MIB?

DELL-NETWORKING-LINK-AGGREGATION-MIB is Dell's enterprise MIB for link aggregation groups (LAGs) on Dell Networking switches, extending the IEEE 802.3ad/dot3ad aggregation model with Dell-specific objects. It exposes configuration and operational data about aggregated port bundles, including which physical interfaces belong to each LAG, whether LACP is supported/enabled, and the aggregate's MAC address and operational status. This is primarily a network configuration/status MIB used to confirm that LAG bundles are correctly formed and operationally up: dot3aAggCfgOperStatus reveals whether an aggregate link is currently passing traffic, dot3aAggCfgPortList/dot3aAggCfgPortListString show current bundle membership, and dellNetLinkAggAlarms would surface fault conditions on an aggregate. It builds directly on the standard IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation MIB conventions (the dot3ad/dot3aAgg naming) as its structural basis. It is deployed on Dell Networking (Force10-derived) switches in data centers and campus networks wherever multiple physical links are bonded for bandwidth and redundancy. Engineers can download the DELL-NETWORKING-LINK-AGGREGATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DELL-NETWORKING-LINK-AGGREGATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Networking switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk dot3aAggConfigTable/dot3aAggConfigEntry, indexed by dot3aAggCfgId, to check dot3aAggCfgNumPorts against dot3aAggCfgPortList/dot3aAggCfgPortListString and confirm all expected member ports are present in the bundle. If dot3aAggCfgOperStatus shows the aggregate down while dot3aAggCfgLacpSupported is true, that points to an LACP negotiation failure with the peer device. dot3aAggStaticTable/dot3aAggStaticEntry would be checked for statically configured (non-LACP) aggregates, and dellNetLinkAggAlarms polled to catch any raised link-aggregation fault condition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LAG member port list
  • LAG operational status
  • LACP support/negotiation state
  • aggregate MAC address
  • static aggregation configuration
  • link aggregation alarms
