Description: Dell Force10 Networks MIB for managing configuration file copy operations between running, startup, and remote file system locations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is FORCE10-COPY-CONFIG-MIB?

FORCE10-COPY-CONFIG-MIB is a Dell (formerly Force10 Networks) proprietary MIB for managing configuration and image file copy operations on Dell Networking OS devices, covering transfers between running-config, startup-config, local flash, and remote FTP/TFTP servers. It exposes a copy table where an operator specifies source and destination file types/locations/names, along with remote server address and credentials, plus notification traps for copy completion. Its monitoring role is software/operational: it lets an admin confirm a configuration backup or firmware copy operation completed, which is essential for validating that a config-save or upgrade actually took effect rather than being lost on reload. It is a switch/router lifecycle-management MIB with no dependency on external standard MIBs evident from its description beyond the vendor's own SNMP framework. It is deployed on Dell Force10 switches and routers wherever automated configuration backup, restore, or firmware distribution via SNMP is used. Engineers can download the FORCE10-COPY-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in FORCE10-COPY-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell Force10 (Dell Networking OS) switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An operator automating nightly config backups would populate f10CopyTable/f10CopyEntry (indexed by copyConfigIndex) with copySrcFileType/copySrcFileLocation/copySrcFileName set to the running-config and copyDestFileType/copyDestFileLocation/copyDestFileName plus copyServerAddress pointing to a TFTP server, then watch for the f10CopyConfigTraps notification confirming success or failure. copyUserName and copyUserPassword support authenticated FTP transfers when TFTP isn't available, and a failed or missing completion trap would indicate the backup didn't complete, prompting investigation into network reachability to the file server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • config/firmware copy operation status
  • source and destination file locations
  • remote transfer server address
  • copy completion notifications
