What Is Dell-CDB-MIB?

Dell-CDB-MIB is a Dell proprietary MIB managing the Configuration Database (CDB) operations and configuration persistence mechanism on Dell switches, which stores the device's running/startup configuration. It exposes a small set of status and control objects reflecting whether the startup configuration has been modified, whether it is empty, and a manual reboot trigger. Its monitoring purpose is tracking the software-configuration integrity status of the device, letting an operator detect an unsaved configuration change (drift between running and startup config) or an empty startup configuration that could cause the device to boot with defaults, both important operational risk indicators. It is a self-contained vendor-specific MIB without notable dependency on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches for configuration-management automation and change auditing, where the Dell-CDB-MIB MIB gives automation tools a direct way to flag unsaved configuration drift.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-CDB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • startup configuration changed flag
  • startup configuration empty flag
  • manual reboot trigger state

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/Networking switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll rlStartupCDBChanged to detect that the running configuration differs from the saved startup configuration, a common cause of lost changes after an unexpected reboot, and check rlStartupCDBEmpty to catch a switch that would boot to factory defaults. rlManualReboot exposes a control point to trigger a reboot remotely, which combined with the CDB-changed flag lets an automation system enforce a 'save before reboot' policy across a fleet of switches.
