Category: VLAN Management

Description: Manages VLAN creation, membership, and port assignments on D-Link switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINKSW-VLAN-MIB?

DLINKSW-VLAN-MIB is a vendor-specific extension MIB from D-Link used to configure and monitor Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) on D-Link managed switches. It exposes VLAN identifiers, port membership assignments, and MAC-based VLAN mappings, letting an administrator see how switch ports and MAC addresses are grouped into broadcast domains. While primarily a configuration MIB, it also supports status monitoring by revealing the current active VLAN-to-MAC bindings on the device, which helps confirm the switch's software is applying VLAN policy correctly and flag misconfigurations. It builds on the standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN model and is typically layered alongside the standard Q-BRIDGE-MIB or Interfaces MIB for a fuller picture. It is deployed in enterprise and SMB network closets where D-Link switches segment traffic for security or performance reasons. Engineers can download the DLINKSW-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINKSW-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling dVlanCurrentMacVlanTable can see the live table of MAC-address-to-VLAN assignments currently enforced on the switch, useful for confirming that a newly plugged-in device landed in the expected VLAN. If a host unexpectedly shows up mapped to the wrong VLAN entry, this table would reveal a misapplied MAC-VLAN binding rule. Because sample_objects only lists this one table, deeper per-port VLAN membership details likely live in a companion table not shown here.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC-to-VLAN bindings
  • current VLAN assignments
  • VLAN membership status
