Category: VLAN Management

Description: Manages D-Link private VLAN configuration including isolated and community ports.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MY-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB?

MY-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB is a D-Link proprietary MIB that manages the Private VLAN feature on D-Link switching devices, allowing a primary VLAN to be subdivided into isolated and community secondary VLANs for traffic segregation within a single broadcast domain. It exposes a VLAN-level table describing each VLAN's private-VLAN type and its associated primary VLAN, plus port-level tables mapping private/promiscuous ports to their primary and secondary VLAN associations. This is purely a Layer-2 configuration MIB, not a hardware-health MIB: administrators use it to audit and verify port-to-VLAN assignments in private VLAN deployments, ensuring isolated ports cannot communicate with each other and community ports are grouped correctly. It builds on standard VLAN Bridge MIB concepts of VLAN and port indexing, extending them with D-Link's private-VLAN semantics. It is typically deployed on D-Link access-layer switches in multi-tenant environments, such as hosting, hotel, or ISP access networks, requiring strict Layer-2 isolation between end devices sharing a VLAN. Engineers can download the MY-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks mypvlanVlanTable to confirm mypvlanVlanPrivateVlanType and mypvlanVlanAssociatedPrimaryVlan for a given secondary VLAN, verifying it's correctly configured as isolated or community. Reviewing mypvlanPrivatePortTable entries, mypvlanPrivatePortPrimaryVlan and mypvlanPrivatePortSecondaryVlan, confirms which ports are bound to which secondary VLAN, catching a misconfigured port that could unintentionally allow two tenant devices to communicate. Checking mypvlanPromPortTable ensures the uplink/promiscuous port correctly reaches all associated secondary VLANs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • private VLAN type (isolated/community)
  • primary-to-secondary VLAN association
  • private port VLAN bindings
  • promiscuous port VLAN associations
