Category: Domain: SNA/Legacy, Domain: WAN, Vendor: Memotec

Description: Manages BSC (Binary Synchronous Communications) protocol configuration on CX Memotec devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXBsc-MIB?

CXBsc-MIB is a vendor MIB from Memotec (CX product line) for managing BSC (Binary Synchronous Communications), a legacy IBM synchronous data-link protocol used to connect mainframe and terminal equipment over WAN links. It exposes SAP (service access point) configuration objects describing interface type, protocol alias/companion relationships, SNA/LC reference, polling timers, and operational mode and link status. For hardware/software status monitoring, its key fields are bscSapLinkStatus (is the BSC link currently up) and bscSapLinkChange (notification of link state transitions), along with bscSapOperationalMode reflecting the current running mode of the SAP. It operates as protocol-specific extension alongside Memotec's broader device/interface MIB tree rather than a standards-track MIB, since BSC predates modern IETF SNMP conventions. It is deployed in legacy environments bridging IBM BSC/SNA traffic over modern WAN links via Memotec protocol converters. Engineers can download the CXBsc-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXBsc-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Memotec CX BSC/SNA protocol converter

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll bscSapTable/bscSapEntry, keyed by bscSapType and bscSapInterfaceType, to check bscSapLinkStatus for each configured BSC SAP and catch a link that has gone down. bscPollIntAfterAckTimer would be reviewed when diagnosing slow or timing-out BSC polling cycles to a downstream terminal cluster. bscSapLinkChange traps let an admin react immediately to a BSC link transition rather than waiting for the next polling cycle, and bscSapOperationalMode confirms the SAP is running in the expected mode after a configuration change via bscSapControl.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BSC link status
  • SAP operational mode
  • polling timer configuration
  • link state change traps
  • interface/protocol type
