What Is CXGwMux-MIB?

CXGwMux-MIB is a vendor-specific Aastra/Memotec (CX) MIB managing gateway multiplexing services that combine voice and data traffic over shared WAN links, including channel aggregation between a bus interface and the WAN. It exposes configuration parameters (timing, buffering, flow control factors) alongside live counters for messages and acknowledgments passed between the bus and WAN sides. For hardware/software status monitoring, the key value is in the counters such as gmfCntUnexpLinkNoFromWan and the various message-relay counters, which reveal link synchronization problems, dropped frames, or protocol errors in the multiplexing engine, plus gmfState to see the current operational state of the mux function. It works in conjunction with lower-layer WAN link MIBs (e.g., CXLapBD-MIB, CXMLPPP-MIB) that carry the aggregated traffic. It is typically deployed on Aastra CX gateway/multiplexer devices carrying converged voice-over-data traffic across WAN circuits at enterprise or telco access sites. Engineers can download the CXGwMux-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXGwMux-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll gmfState to confirm the multiplexer function is operationally up, then watch gmfCntInfoMsgRelFromBus and gmfCntInfoMsgRelFromWan to compare message throughput in each direction; a growing imbalance can indicate a stalled link. gmfCntUnexpLinkNoFromWan rising unexpectedly signals link-number desynchronization between endpoints, a common precursor to dropped calls or data errors. gmfVoiceOverDataPriorityFactor and gmfOutputFlowControlFactor would be checked when voice quality issues are reported, to confirm voice traffic is still being prioritized correctly over data.
