Category: Alarm and Event Management, Cisco Devices, Telephony and VoIP

Description: Defines trap notifications for fault conditions, state changes, and threshold crossings on Cisco VISM MGX modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-VISM-TRAPS-MIB?

CISCO-VISM-TRAPS-MIB defines the SNMP trap notifications used to signal fault conditions, state changes, and threshold-crossing events for Cisco's VISM voice gateway modules on the MGX platform. As a traps-only MIB, its content is entirely notification definitions rather than pollable status objects, but its purpose is explicitly monitoring-oriented: it lets network management stations be asynchronously alerted to hardware or software faults on the voice module, such as card failures, channel/port problems, or configuration threshold breaches, rather than requiring constant polling. Because detailed module text and object samples were not available for this module, the more granular per-condition trap names cannot be confirmed here, but the MIB's role is clearly fault/event notification for the VISM family. It depends on the companion CISCO-VISM CAC, SVC, and module MIBs whose managed objects the traps typically reference via varbinds. It is deployed in Cisco MGX-based ATM voice gateway deployments, where CISCO-VISM-TRAPS-MIB SNMP notifications provide real-time fault alerting on voice trunking hardware.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VISM-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco VISM voice service module (MGX platform)

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this MIB, so specific trap names cannot be cited with confidence; however, based on its stated role, an NMS would subscribe to its notifications to receive real-time alerts when a VISM card, channel, or port enters a fault or threshold-crossing state, rather than needing to poll the related CAC/SVC MIBs continuously. Correlating a received trap with the corresponding CISCO-VISM-CAC-MIB or CISCO-VISM-SVC-MIB counters would confirm the underlying condition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • voice module fault notifications
  • card/channel/port state-change alerts
  • threshold-crossing alerts
