Description: Manages Cisco WAN voice announcement services for pre-recorded audio playback in telephony networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-WAN-ANNOUNCEMENT-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-ANNOUNCEMENT-MIB is a Cisco-proprietary MIB for the VISM/Media Gateway Card's Announcements feature, which plays pre-recorded audio announcements toward TDM endpoints or existing VoIP calls under call-agent control. It exposes configuration objects for announcement file management—file server location, file naming, codec, prefix path, and aging/timeout parameters—along with per-file status. Monitoring focus is largely software/service status: confirming announcement files are correctly loaded and available (cwAnnFileStatus) and that the file server/prefix path configuration is reachable, rather than physical hardware counters. It depends on an external file server (referenced via cwAnnFileServerName) for sourcing the announcement audio files and complements other Cisco WAN VISM MIBs handling call/trunk setup. Administrators tracing the CISCO-WAN-ANNOUNCEMENT-MIB OID tree can locate the cwAnnounceTable objects that carry file status and codec details, and it is deployed on Cisco WAN switching platforms (e.g., MGX 8000 series) using Media Gateway Cards to provide network announcements in switched VoIP deployments.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-ANNOUNCEMENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco WAN switching platforms with VISM/Media Gateway cards, e.g. Cisco MGX 8000 series

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cwAnnounceTable/cwAnnounceEntry, indexed by cwAnnounceNumber, to check cwAnnFileStatus and cwAnnFileCodec for each announcement file, confirming it downloaded successfully from the server named in cwAnnFileServerName. A cwAnnFileStatus stuck in a non-ready or failed state alongside a cwAnnReqTimeout being exceeded would reveal that the announcement file server is unreachable or the file path is misconfigured. Checking cwAnnMaximumSize against a file's actual size would also catch an oversized or corrupted announcement upload.

What Can Be Monitored

  • announcement file load/availability status
  • announcement file server reachability
  • file codec and size vs. limits
  • announcement request timeout events
