What Is CIENA-WS-PTP-MODEM-MIB?
CIENA-WS-PTP-MODEM-MIB is a Ciena WaveServer platform MIB that augments the base ciena-ws-ptp (Physical Termination Point) module with coherent DSP modem-transceiver attributes for line-system ports, describing the optical signal carried by the modem transceiver at each line port. It exposes hardware configuration and telemetry for the modem itself — transmitter channel assignment, tunable frequency settings (current value plus min/max allowed range and actual measured frequency), and optical power readings — data that is automatically provisioned at system turn-up. For status monitoring it verifies modem hardware health and configuration correctness: comparing cwsPtpModemFrequencyValue/Actual against cwsPtpModemFrequencyMinValue/MaxValue flags a modem operating outside its allowed tuning range, and the power table lets operators check transmit/receive optical power for signs of degrading optics. It explicitly augments the base CIENA-WS-PTP-MIB table, so it depends directly on that module's PTP entries for indexing. It is deployed in DWDM/coherent optical transport networks using Ciena WaveServer platforms where line-side modem tuning and optical power need close monitoring. Monitoring Examples
An operator polls cwsPtpModemFrequencyTable, keyed by cwsPtpModemFrequencyTableSnmpKey, to compare cwsPtpModemFrequencyActual against cwsPtpModemFrequencyMinValue/MaxValue and catch a modem drifting outside its supported tuning range. The cwsPtpAugPtpModemTransmitterTable's cwsPtpModemTransmitterLineSystemChannelNumber confirms which DWDM channel a given transmitter is assigned to, while cwsPtpModemPowerTable provides optical power readings used to detect a degrading laser or fiber-plant issue before a line goes down.
