What Is CISCO-IF-LINK-CONFIG-MIB?
CISCO-IF-LINK-CONFIG-MIB is a Cisco-proprietary MIB for configuring bulk distribution, a feature that demultiplexes traffic from a single higher-bandwidth source interface down onto one or more lower-bandwidth target-module interfaces. It exposes a configuration table (cilConfTable) mapping each source interface to a target module/interface and framing type, together with row-creation and status controls. Although primarily a configuration MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB, it supports monitoring software/configuration state by exposing the operational row status of each bulk-distribution mapping, letting an operator confirm whether a given interface-to-module linkage is active, not-in-service, or failed to establish. It relies on the standard IF-MIB ifTable for the interface indices it references. It is typically deployed on Cisco modular chassis platforms, such as channelized or aggregation line cards, where a high-speed interface's traffic must be split out to lower-speed target interfaces. Engineers can download the CISCO-IF-LINK-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IF-LINK-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco modular chassis line cards/aggregation modules
Monitoring Examples
cilConfTable/cilConfEntry maps each cilSourceInterface to a cilTargetModuleInterface with a configured cilTargetModuleFramingType and a cilRowStatus. An operator would poll cilRowStatus for each entry to verify a bulk-distribution mapping is active(1) rather than notInService or notReady, which would indicate the target module linkage failed to establish; checking cilTargetModuleFramingType confirms the expected framing, such as channelized, is applied on the linked interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- bulk-distribution mapping row status
- source-to-target interface linkage
- target module framing type configuration
