Description: Handles fast channel change request processing and related statistics for digital set-top box cable TV services.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB?

CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB is a cable/broadband access MIB used in PON-based video delivery systems, defining objects for managing the Channel Change Control Function within an OLT/ONU to support fast channel change (FCC) for digital set-top box television services. It exposes configuration and statistics related to channel-change requests, such as request handling counts and status, for the video delivery function operating between the optical line terminal and optical network unit. It is used to monitor the software-level performance of the fast-channel-change feature -- how many channel-change requests are processed, succeed, or fail -- functioning as a service-quality/performance monitoring tool for channel switching rather than hardware health. Because it operates within an OLT/ONU PON architecture, it likely depends on or complements the vendor's PON access MIBs for the underlying optical transport. It is typically deployed in cable/telco video-over-PON access networks where set-top boxes rely on fast channel change to reduce channel-switch latency. Engineers can download the CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • OLT/ONU cable/PON video access equipment
  • digital set-top boxes (indirectly)

Monitoring Examples

No object or table names were included in the sample for this module, so specific identifiers can't be cited; based on the module description, an operator would typically poll channel-change request counters and status objects within the OLT/ONU to detect degraded channel-switch performance, such as a rising failure rate affecting subscribers' set-top box experience.
