Module: CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB
OID (symbolic): CHANNEL-CHANGE-MIB::entitlementIndex
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.2
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Integer32
Access: read-create
Description: The value of this object is the key for performing conditional access. The value zero (0) is reserved and is allocated to a channel which is free and does not require conditional access to be performed. Note that a maximum of 4095 channels can be supported by this MIB.
What is entitlementIndex?
This is the conditional-access entitlement key associated with a specific broadcast channel in a cable or IPTV headend system, used by the access-control system to determine whether a subscriber's set-top box is authorized to decode that channel, with the reserved value 0 marking a free-to-air channel that needs no entitlement check at all. This value is what actually gates premium content; a channel provisioned with the wrong entitlement index would either fail to authorize legitimate paying subscribers or, worse, fail to restrict access from unauthorized viewers. An operator adding a new premium sports channel would assign it a nonzero entitlement index tied to that channel's specific subscription package, while a basic local broadcast channel included free with every package would use entitlementIndex 0.
