Organization: Broadband Access Systems

Last Updated: 1999-11-18

Category: DOCSIS and Cable

Description: Handles cluster configuration and failover status for BAS CMTS systems deployed in redundant pairs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is BAS-CLUSTER-MIB?

BAS-CLUSTER-MIB manages cluster configuration and inter-chassis relationships for Broadband Access Systems CMTS equipment operating as a redundant cluster pair (or larger group), tracking how local chassis/slot/port resources map to remote cluster peers. It exposes a cluster-channel table associating a local chassis/slot/interface/logical-port with its remote chassis counterpart and "next" local addressing, along with target status and ARP flag configuration for that cluster link. Its main monitoring value is fault/status-oriented: basClChTargetStatus reveals whether a given cluster interconnection is up, degraded, or failed, critical for detecting a broken redundancy link before a failover event occurs. It is part of the family of BAS-*-MIB modules sharing common chassis/slot/interface/logical-port addressing conventions used across the BAS CMTS platform. It is deployed by cable operators running Broadband Access Systems CMTS chassis in high-availability (redundant) cluster configurations. Engineers can download the BAS-CLUSTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BAS-CLUSTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Broadband Access Systems (BAS) CMTS cluster
  • redundant CMTS chassis pair

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls basClChTable/basClChEntry rows to map each basClChLocalChassis/basClChLocalSlot to its basClChRemoteChassis peer, and checks basClChTargetStatus to confirm the cluster interconnection is healthy. An unexpected basClChArpFlags value or a target status showing failure would indicate the redundant link between cluster chassis has dropped, which could prevent a clean failover if the primary chassis fails.

What Can Be Monitored

  • local-to-remote chassis cluster mapping
  • cluster interconnection target status
  • ARP flag configuration
  • cluster link addressing (chassis/slot/interface/port)
