Description: Manages Zhone Technologies Layer 2 bridge configuration, port membership, and VLAN filtering tables.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZHNLAYER2BRIDGING?

ZHNLAYER2BRIDGING is a Zhone Technologies enterprise MIB defining Layer 2 bridging objects for Zhone's VoIP customer-premises equipment (CPE), covering bridge table capacity limits, port membership, VLAN/traffic filtering, and packet marking rules. It exposes bridge, filter, and marking tables along with global capacity counters (maximum vs. current number of entries) that describe the bridging subsystem's configuration and load. Its monitoring value centers on software/configuration status: administrators poll bridgeStatus and bridgeEnable per bridge entry to confirm bridges are administratively up and operating as expected, and compare bridgeNumberOfEntries/filterNumberOfEntries/markingNumberOfEntries against their max* counterparts to detect a bridging table nearing its configured capacity. It is a Zhone-proprietary extension that would typically sit alongside standard bridge (IEEE 802.1D) and interface MIBs on the same CPE. It is deployed on Zhone VoIP CPE devices where Layer 2 bridging and VLAN filtering must be monitored for correct segmentation of voice and data traffic. Engineers can download the ZHNLAYER2BRIDGING file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZHNLAYER2BRIDGING. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Zhone Technologies VoIP CPE devices

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the bridgeTable (bridgeEntry, keyed by bridgeKey) to check bridgeEnable and bridgeStatus for each configured bridge, confirming it's active and not in an error state. Comparing bridgeNumberOfEntries against maxBridgeEntries, and similarly filterNumberOfEntries against maxFilterEntries, reveals whether the CPE's bridging or filtering table is approaching its hard capacity limit, which would cause new entries to be rejected. The availableInterfaceNumberOfEntries object tells an administrator how many interfaces remain available for new bridge port assignments.

What Can Be Monitored

  • bridge entry enable/status per bridge
  • bridge/filter/marking table capacity utilization
  • available interfaces for bridging
  • VLAN filtering rule configuration
