What Is XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB?
XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB is a vendor-specific module in the Xerox Common Management Interface (XCMI) family, used to monitor the lifecycle and accounting of print jobs and their constituent documents on Xerox devices. It exposes job-level tables (state, owner, service type, client ID) and document-level tables (media size, page/impression counts, output method), plus tables for job-to-device assignment and media/impression accounting. It is explicitly read-only/monitoring in scope — the module's own description states it does not provide job control such as cancelling or modifying jobs, so it is well suited to software-status monitoring (job state, queue depth, completion, and consumption stats) rather than device control. It depends on HOST-RESOURCES-MIB for device identification (hrDeviceIndex), XEROX-COMMON-MIB, XEROX-GENERAL-TC, and XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-TC for shared Xerox textual conventions. XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB SNMP monitoring is typically deployed on Xerox network printers and multifunction devices alongside other XCMI MIBs such as XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-EXT-MIB.

Monitoring Examples
For example, a print management dashboard can poll xcmJobCurrentState and xcmJobStateReasons in xcmJobGenBasicTable to show whether each job is pending, processing, completed, or aborted, and flag jobs stuck in an error state. The xcmDevicesAssignedTable links a job to the specific hrDeviceIndex it ran on, which matters when jobs are load-balanced across a pool of devices rather than a single printer. Once a job finishes, xcmMediaConsumedTable, xcmColorImpsConsumedTable, and xcmJobImpsByMediumSizeTable report how many sheets/impressions were used, broken down by color and paper size, feeding directly into cost-accounting or chargeback reports. xcmJobGenAccountingBasicTable further exposes the job owner and client ID, letting an accounting system attribute consumption to a specific user or department.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor
Example using xcmJobInterveningJobs OID:
Select a Xerox network printer as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type xcmJobInterveningJobs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports how many print jobs are queued ahead of this job and expected to complete first. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the queue depth ahead of a job exceeds a threshold like 20, which can flag a print queue backing up. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.

NOTE - the hrDeviceIndex is included for convenience, even though the Printer MIB (RFC 1759) doesn't include hrDeviceIndex in its traps. Then the management station doesn't have to parse the received varBind OIDs on a trap in order to discover which device trapped. NOTE - the addition of an entire row to the job tables corresponds to the acceptance of another job by the server. The state of the job changes from unknown to a specific value (usually pending). Therefore, the agent shall generate a trap when a job is accepted (so that the management station can display the newly arrived job in a timely fashion). Similarly when the server removes a job because the job has been in the completed state for a sufficient time or the job has been deleted by a Delete operation, the SNMP agent shall reflect that removal by removing the row from the job tables, and shall generate a trap (since the state of the job has changed to non-existent). The IETF Printer MIB maintains a table which serves as a sort of 'audit-trail' of recent alerts. There is no need for such a table here, since the job's tables will serve virtually the same purpose. As with all SNMP notifications, critical applications cannot completely rely upon delivery: some amount of polling is recommended. The variable-bindings of this trap have been chosen to give the minimum of information: the xcmJobIdentifierOnSystem value and hrDeviceIndex are provided. With these an application is able to obtain the full job table entry. An application has to look at the job tables anyway. The time of the alert is returned as part of any SNMP trap. The hrDeviceIndex maps one-to-one with the PWG Job Mon jmGeneralJobSetIndex. (The PWG Job Mon does not require the Host Resources MIB, so the name of the primary index for all PWG Job Mon tables is not hrDeviceIndex, but serves the same purpose of allowing multiple instances in a single device or server.
