What Is XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB?

XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB is a vendor-specific module in the Xerox Common Management Interface (XCMI) family, used to monitor the lifecycle and accounting of print jobs and their constituent documents on Xerox devices. It exposes job-level tables (state, owner, service type, client ID) and document-level tables (media size, page/impression counts, output method), plus tables for job-to-device assignment and media/impression accounting. It is explicitly read-only/monitoring in scope — the module's own description states it does not provide job control such as cancelling or modifying jobs, so it is well suited to software-status monitoring (job state, queue depth, completion, and consumption stats) rather than device control. It depends on HOST-RESOURCES-MIB for device identification (hrDeviceIndex), XEROX-COMMON-MIB, XEROX-GENERAL-TC, and XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-TC for shared Xerox textual conventions. XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-MIB SNMP monitoring is typically deployed on Xerox network printers and multifunction devices alongside other XCMI MIBs such as XEROX-JOB-MONITORING-EXT-MIB.

Monitoring Examples

For example, a print management dashboard can poll xcmJobCurrentState and xcmJobStateReasons in xcmJobGenBasicTable to show whether each job is pending, processing, completed, or aborted, and flag jobs stuck in an error state. The xcmDevicesAssignedTable links a job to the specific hrDeviceIndex it ran on, which matters when jobs are load-balanced across a pool of devices rather than a single printer. Once a job finishes, xcmMediaConsumedTable, xcmColorImpsConsumedTable, and xcmJobImpsByMediumSizeTable report how many sheets/impressions were used, broken down by color and paper size, feeding directly into cost-accounting or chargeback reports. xcmJobGenAccountingBasicTable further exposes the job owner and client ID, letting an accounting system attribute consumption to a specific user or department.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using xcmJobInterveningJobs OID:

Select a Xerox network printer as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type xcmJobInterveningJobs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports how many print jobs are queued ahead of this job and expected to complete first. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the queue depth ahead of a job exceeds a threshold like 20, which can flag a print queue backing up. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
